The Full Story

My first car was a 2008 Mark 5 VW Golf with over 100,000 miles on it. It wasn’t anything special, but it was special to me. My pride and joy. I remember summers of long road trips, late night drives and memories with friends thanks to this car. To me this wasn’t just a car, it was freedom. I would spend hours cleaning my car to make sure it was always in pristine condition, and the glove box was always full to the brim with air fresheners to keep my car smelling fresh, ready for our next adventure. I remember buying multipacks of air fresheners, week after week - because they never lasted more than a few days, and I was constantly chasing that fresh car smell. Not only was this expensive and extremely wasteful, but the limited scent options were also frustrating. Surely there has to be something better out there so that my car doesn’t smell like the lemon disinfectant my mum uses to clean her kitchen.

We can modify our exhausts to make our cars louder, wrap them and add body kits to create our desired aesthetic, tune them to drive faster and personalise our reg plates. We can make our cars as unique as us, and individualise their performance and aesthetic. We can photograph them, travel with them, share experiences with them, and enjoy looking at them. Why can’t we make them smell great? We can buy hundreds of different fragrances for ourselves, why can’t we personalise our car scents to smell like us? Because all car people will know, they aren’t just cars – they are who we are.

It’s about time that the cheap cardboard scented air fresheners that last a few days and smell like disinfectant were replaced. They’ve always been an industry standard and are far behind any of today’s technology. If you’re like us and you love cars, you’ll understand this all too well.

So, I started researching. I came across car diffusers and my mind was blow. Me being me, I spent the next week buying and hoarding as many different diffusers as possible, to try and find the best one on the market. But then I came across another problem. The leaking. If you’ve used car diffusers before then you’ll know. The majority I tried and tested leaked in my car immediately and the harsh chemicals inside damaged the car. Throughout my research, I also noticed how none of the fragrance diffusers were compliant with UK regulations. How could I be sure they were safe to be breathing in all day when I know for a fact the packaging isn’t meeting legal requirements?

That’s when I took matters into my own hands (with a little help from my scientist sister). We designed our own unique leak-proof diffusers. Our scents were created using certified, regulated suppliers to produce CLP compliant fragrances that meet IFRA standards, to ensure they not only smell great, but are safe, and regulated. We doubled fragrance volume used by most suppliers on the market, and created large 10ml bottles – to maximise cost-benefit and keep your car smelling fresh for up to 2 months! We developed our unique, luxury packaging from scratch because we know that the unboxing experience begins the minute you receive your diffuser. Not only that, but we went the extra mile to ensure our ingredients are vegan friendly, and our glass and wood packaging minimises plastic use as much as possible. Finally, Drift Mist was born.

I’ve had a significant upgrade from my first car, and the scent has finally had the significant upgrade my car deserves. Thanks to Drift Mist, I can now experience a little bit of extra luxury every single day. And now, I can’t wait to share it with you too.
